Sporting achievements 2015 – 2016

It has been a positive start to the new academic year here at Newton Flotman with lots of active children in school and groups participating in sporting events within the cluster.

In school:

  • This term the whole school has been focusing on movement, balance and coordination in dance lessons with the help from Lauren and Laura our dance coaches from CSF.
  • KS2 classes have been developing their team skills, agility and ball skills in tag rugby and hockey.
  • Stamina, pace and endurance was a focus for KS2 when the Olympic runner Paul Evans came to our school to lead lessons in cross country running. This helped the children to prepare for the cluster cross county event where 50% who entered got through to the next round.
  • Year 1 and 2 children have loved their tag rugby lessons too, learning about dodging and avoiding the tagger. There are some very fast runners in this class.
  • Mr Leek ran a tag rugby club after school which led to one team reaching the South Norfolk finals.
  • Mrs Cox ran the table tennis club each week with the children enjoying their own mini tournament.
  • Year 4/5/6 went swimming this term.

 Out of school sporting events:

  • The cluster cross country event proved very popular with us taking 50 children from KS2. They all did a brilliant job with 25 finishing in the top 10. Chelsea and Billy both came first in their race. All 25 went on to represent the cluster in November. It was a tricky course but they they all showed great commitment, stamina and endurance.
  • The tag rugby cluster event was a great day with one of our teams reaching the next round. All children showed positive team spirit and determination. Good luck in the next round.
  • Year 1 children went to a dance festival at Long Stratton.
